Channel Sky History has been criticized on social media after sharing a clip from a new show, in which Lee Mack interviews a man who many users claim has tattoos associated with Nazis on his face Sky History denied this claim and insisted the tattoos have different meanings
Documentary channel Sky History has been controversial over an interview with a man who he claims has « Nazi tattoos on his face »
However, Sky History has hit back at the claims and insists the tattoos are not meant to be symbols of hate, but have close personal meaning for humans.
Comedian Lee Mack, who directs The Chop: Britain’s Best Carpenter, chats cheerfully with carpenter Darren in a clip shared on the channel’s Twitter page
Darren Lumsden of Bristol is one of the UK’s best carpenters and should test his skills against those of others
Some social media users, however, have reported that a number of inks typically point to Nazi allegiance
Funnyman Lee laughs: « I won’t lie to you, Darren If you were the guy in my town you wouldn’t be known as the Woodman
Darren inked the number “88” on his cheek, which the Anti-Defamation League identifies as “white supremacist numeric code for ‘Heil Hitler’”
Others have identified his tattoo on his upper lip, which reads: « local », as a symbol of hatred as well, although it is not known exactly what this means
Another wrote: « You were cool filming this and then broadcasting this when guys are a neo-nazi?
A third blasted: « This guy has a neo Nazi symbol ON HIS FACE You have to kick him off the show (ie give him The Chop) and apologize to him Nobody thought to do research on this? «
Sky History has since reacted to the backlash by explaining, « Darren’s tattoos denote significant events in his life and have no political or ideological significanceAmong the various digital tattoos on her body, 1988 is the year her father died
« The production team did extensive background checks of all carpenters on the show, which confirmed that Darren had no affiliation or connection with any racist groups, opinions or comments
« Sky HISTORY does not tolerate racism and all forms of hatred and any use of symbols or numbers is entirely incidental and is not intended to cause harm or offense »
