NEWARK, NJ (CBSNewYork) – As New Jersey faces spike in COVID-19 cases, Newark heads for second wave lockdown
There are fears that other hot spots in the state will follow soon, CBS2’s Meg Baker reported on Monday.
The fall wave hit Newark hard, leaving Mayor Ras Baraka with no choice but to apply the restrictions, once again
As of Tuesday, all businesses in Newark except grocery stores, drug stores, and gas stations must close at 8 p.m. Restaurants can continue to eat al fresco until 11 a.m.

All city workers to be tested as infection rate climbs to 112%, from 53% statewide
Gov. Phil Murphy said the same problem was occurring statewide, with the majority of cases being caused by private gatherings inside
During Murphy’s virtual press conference, Baker asked, « Do you think the whole state is heading in this direction, or how many cases would it take for the whole state to back down like Newark? the fact? »
« I continue to believe, Meg, that there is no brutal, state-wide instrument that we believe would effectively reduce these numbers, » Murphy said.
The governor did not say how many cases it would take to return the entire state to lockdown, but said other hotspot communities could follow Newark’s lead with municipal closures
« If we do all of this we can break the back of this But, if we can’t get our hands on this thing, it’s probably something that, as a consideration, will have to become more meaningful. We won’t have a choice at this point, « said Murphy. » not to that, friends Let’s break the back of this long before we get there «
Murphy pointed the finger at Lakewood in Ocean County, which increased COVID cases last month, but has since brought the spread under control through law enforcement, rapid testing and tracing
But one of the state’s biggest hurdles has been getting people to cooperate with contact tracers
