And tomorrow, much of southern England will be hit by torrential rains and high winds as Storm Alex, a weather system named by Météo-France earlier this week, hits the UK
The warning, which covers much of the UK, begins at 3 a.m. on Saturday and continues until 6 p.m. the following day
Met Office spokeswoman Bonnie Diamond said: « It’s been a pretty wet weekend for much of the UK including Greater Manchester
« Storm Alex will mainly affect southern UK on Friday, but northern tip of storm will devastate Greater Manchester area
« This system will then clear the UK but will be followed early on Saturday by another fairly heavy band of rain coming from the east and extending from Scotland to the south of England
« 50mm of rain is expected during the warning period, which means there is a risk of flooding and difficult driving conditions on Saturday
« There is a chance on higher ground in parts of Wales and the South West that could be as high as 100mm, and while that is not as likely in Greater Manchester I don’t think so. that you can exclude the region from this
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Nick Silkstone said: « Saturday will be a very humid day as heavy rains push north and west across the country, followed by torrential downpours on Sunday
