Report and highlights of the Sky Bet championship clash between Swansea and Bournemouth at Liberty Stadium as the two teams played a goalless tie that put the cherries at the top of the table on Tuesday night

Bournemouth have been at the top of the championship table for at least 24 hours after a goalless draw with Swansea at Liberty Stadium.

The guests reached the goal difference after leveling the point difference with Norwich, hosts of Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Swansea came into play with the best defensive record in the championship, but manager Steve Cooper faced a mini-crisis with both Ryan Bennett and Marc Guehi injured.

It meant home boss Joel Latibeaudiere had to give his first start and get Welsh international Ben Cabango to oversee dangerous Dominic Solanke.

Bournemouth manager Jason Tindall was delighted to have Junior Stanislas back in action as the only move on his side, who won 4-0 in Barnsley last weekend.

The Cherries pushed hard from the start and held the ball in possession for the first two and a half minutes of play. Their early pressure led Lewis Cook to pitch Stanislas for the first shot of the night.

Swansea took the time to build into the game and seemed happy to sit back and rely on a defense system that had conceded eight goals in 16 games.

Freddy Woodman was certainly the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half, but there weren’t too many nervous moments for him at home.

Korey Smith won in 10. Minute, a yellow card for a late move to David Brooks. Moments later, the Welsh international Solanke sent in the Swansea goal, but his left foot shot went over the crossbar after a good shot.

Brooks was almost given a goal by Woodman when he missed a pass from defense. Brooks picked it up, drove into the box, forcing the home goalkeeper into an important tackle.

Swansea’s best chance in the half came when Jamal Lowe raced 30 yards from half before firing a shot that forced Asmir Begovic to go down to save.

Bournemouth, the second highest scorer in the league, started the second half when they started the first with a sustained attack and Stanislas had a golden chance to break the impasse with a volley just past the penalty spot.

Swansea was better at break in the second half and was able to clear Yan Dhanda in the lower right. He jumped past Diego Rico and drove into the pits, but his violent shot hit the side netting.

Rico received a yellow card before his shot for disturbing Dhanda and will now miss the next game.

Bournemouth thought they should have gotten a penalty when Brooks was at 71. Minute after a cut in Latibeaudiere went down, but the referee kept waving after taking a long hard look at it.

Steve Cooper of Swansea: « I’m not disappointed, I think it was a tough game and I thought it was a fair result. We would have liked to have had more of the ball than we did and I think we could certainly have handled it a little better. Sometimes we turned the ball too much.

« But you have to respect, they have as strong a squad as anyone else in the league, they had an extra day of rest which is vital to the schedule we’re on. In the end, I thought it was a good effort by the guys to get a fair result. «

Jason Tindall from Bournemouth: « I’m very frustrated, our performance deserves three points. I felt like we were in total control for 90 minutes, dominating the game. We created opportunities that we would have seized on another night. I’m happy with the team’s performance but frustrated that I didn’t win the game.

« I’m not sure the pitch had an impact on the game, but it’s not in brilliant shape either. It’s not what you’d expect from a club like this, but it’s what it is and you can handle it. We have to dust ourselves off now and prepare for the weekend. «
