TWO-THIRD OF people would rather the clocks didn’t come back this weekend, new poll finds

The poll, conducted by Ireland Thinks and which surveyed 1,000 people, asked participants if they thought the clocks should go backwards

The nationally representative poll was carried out on Saturday, October 17, before the clocks returned on Sunday

The poll found that 47% of people think clocks shouldn’t come back on Sunday, while 20% said clocks should go back, but only because Northern Ireland is doing the same

A total of 31% said the clocks should go back, while 2% said they didn’t know

Under EU law, our clocks – alongside those of all member states – go back to the last Sunday in October They move forward on the last Sunday in March

However, last March the EU voted to scrap the system for 2021 – meaning EU states may have to decide whether they want to stay on permanent daylight saving time or at permanent winter time

Poll found older people were more likely to believe clocks shouldn’t go backwards Among people over 65, 55% think clocks shouldn’t go back This same point view was only shared by 32% of 18-24 year olds
