The trilogy fight between WBC Champion Fury and Bronze Bomber is over after the rematch clause expires, paving the way for the Gypsy King to face Anthony Joshua with all four heavyweight belts on the line
The Tyson Fury trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder is over, paving the way for the Gypsy King to take on Anthony Joshua in a superfight in 2021
Fury was set to face Wilder for the third time after winning the US WBC heavyweight belt with a stunning TKO victory in February after their first fight ended in a draw last year
With Wilder’s rematch clause now expired, Fury will defend his title in a pre-Christmas warm-up fight as he prepares for the first of two potential clashes with Joshua next year
Meanwhile, WBA, WBO and IBF champion Joshua is set to face obligatory challenger Kubrat Pulev on December 12
As first reported by the Daily Mail, sources have confirmed that the trilogy fight between Fury and Wilder has been called off
Instead of fighting the Bronze Bomber in Las Vegas, the Gypsy King could now take on AJ at Wembley in the spring
However, the location of the fight is subject to the level of coronavirus restrictions in effect and the fight may move to the Middle East or China if fans cannot attend.
With all four big belts on the line, the fight to determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis does not rest with any of the Brits suffering a shock defeat this winter
The only other potential obstacle in the fight would be Oleksandr Usyk approaching the WBO to assert his right to a mandatory title fight with Joshua if he defeats Dereck Chisora in their fight in London on October 31.
However, AJ could choose to drop the belt in favor of a fight with Fury, which is likely to win nine-figure sums for both fighters and captivate audiences around the world.
Meanwhile, Wilder is struggling to recover from a bicep injury suffered in his loss to Fury ahead of the third fight contract deadline, which is believed to be ‘in a few weeks’ time.
