As the tweet indicates, the goal drew comparisons with Rangers FC’s Kemar Roofe, who also scored an absolute stunner just past the Europa League midfield line last week Contextually, Roofe’s goal was more impactful as that is what became the score to set aside the game for his team in added time.
Roofe’s goal was probably a lot more legal than Gomez’s Although the referee let the goal stand, a replay of the highlight shows the ball still rolling when Gomez shot, which is against the rules regarding the quick free kick for your team Although the ball looked like it was slowing down, which may have been enough to trick the referee into believing he actually did, the replay shows that just wasn’t the case.
The game held on, but PSV were able to recoup that poor serve by scoring an equalizer around 10 minutes later thanks to Donyell Malen
