Matt Hancock was reprimanded online after distorting French President’s comment on England’s NHS test and trace system

The Secretary of Health tweeted Wednesday evening that Emmanuel Marcon had « complimented » the national Test and Trace program

« Tonight parliament approved the &, President Macron complimented our test & Trace Many thanks to my & team to everyone who is working so hard to generate huge capacity growth – helping to keep the people safe, ”he said

In an interview broadcast on France 24, Macron admitted that his country’s contact tracing app failed after only alerting 993 people to self-isolate

He said: « In Germany and UK there were a lot more downloads We weren’t successful

« If you look at our neighbors today, however, the cases they identified through these apps, even in Germany and the UK [were] very few

« He said that » even in countries where there were more downloads (eg Germany and UK) apps couldn’t reach a lot of people « 

Macron absolutely did not « compliment » UK Test and Trace !! He said that « even in countries where there were more downloads (eg 🇩🇪 and 🇬🇧) apps failed to reach a lot of people » If you take that as a « compliment » you are rather desperate for the compliments @MattHancock: // tco / 6SVPqwSLId

One user, by the name IanMc, wrote: « No he didn’t. What he actually said was that testing and tracing didn’t work because few people downloaded the app And so something better, that people will actually use, needs to be put in place And that more, more accessible tests with quick results are vital «
