Born in the town of Aïn Témouchent in northern Algeria, near the country’s Mediterranean coast, Benrahma moved to the south of France as a teenager, joining Toulouse-based Balma SC ? a club that West Ham defender Issa Diop has also represented as a youngster
After one season with famous youth development club Balma and two with another Toulouse team, US Colomiers, the young winger caught the attention of some of France’s biggest clubs, including Monaco, before choosing to join OGC Nice, who had just finished fourth in Ligue 1, in the summer of 2013 It didn’t take long for the 18-year-old to make an impact, as he made his debut in a League game 1 with Toulouse in October of the same year
A first senior goal arrived in April 2015 in the form of a Ligue 1 winner against Reims, before Benrahma was loaned to Angers SCO, GFC Ajaccio and LB Châtéuroux to gain valuable experience in the first C ‘team It is with Châ teauroux in 2017/18 that he began to realize his exceptional potential, scoring ten goals and helping five others for the new Ligue 2 team
Having been spotted by Brentford French scout Brendan MacFarlane, Benrahma moved to London in the summer of 2018, following a path taken by Neal Maupay, who has since enjoyed Premier League success with Brighton & Hove Albion
Benrahma was virtually unstoppable in a bees jersey, scoring eleven goals, assisting 17 others and winning the club’s Goal of the Season award for an outstanding strike against Hull City in February 2019

Selected five times by Algeria, Benrahma made his debut for his country against Senegal in 2015 and recently returned to international action, starting a friendly 1-0 victory over Nigeria earlier this month and appearing as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with Mexico this week
