World News – GB – Wigan Warriors 28 Wakefield Trinity 16 – Spirited Trinity shot down by clinical warriors

Wakefield Trinity must be wondering where his first win since the Super League restart will come from

Patrick Bamford on how long it will take for Leeds United to get on the heels

Leeds United’s £ 32million move could seal the exit of Watford key man Barnsley boss linked to SHOCK move elsewhere

Chris Chester’s squad produced one of their best displays since competition resumed last month, but they had nothing left to show against a clinical Wigan Warriors outfit

Trinity’s effort, attitude and character have been called into question at times since the season restarted, but none of these qualities were lacking on Friday night.

The only thing they lacked was a little bit of edge, as they dominated possession and territory for much of the game but couldn’t make it count.

They were leading 12-0 midway through the first half, but five unanswered tries from Wigan took the game away at Trinity

Wakefield are the only club not to have a win since August, but they looked good until second-half tries from Sam Powell, Oliver Gildart and a second score from Bevan French propelled the game to the -beyond

Wakefield’s squad picked themselves ahead of kick-off as Chester had only 17 players left after more positive Covid-19 tests were reported to the club this week

Despite a number of squad members, Trinity was able to welcome star winger Tom Johnstone again after recovering from an arm injury he sustained last month

Meanwhile, Matty Ashurst had been recruited during the week to bolster Wakefield’s ranks, coming out of parental leave earlier after her baby was born on Monday Wakefield met Wigan last month in what was the two clubs’ first game of the Super League resumption, with the Warriors in a tight 23-22 game

Friday night’s game followed a similar pattern, with the teams locked down at 12-12 after the opening 40 minutes and it stayed that way until the final stages of the game where a quick-try trio won out. for the Warriors

Wakefield took the lead when Jordan Crowther, who was deployed on the hooker, fired a pass to Miller who left the tackle and forced the ball to drop despite the attention of two Wigan defenders

This was the first time since the rerun that Trinity had claimed the opening try, as they produced the combat and determination sorely lacking in previous outings

Soon after, they forced Wigan to touch 40 yards from the try line and got their reward with more points as Crowther was the supplier again, this time for Tini Arona, who did well to collect a high pass and dive between messages

Testing took place in front of the booth that normally houses outside supporters at Halliwell Jones Stadium, but the only cheers came from the Wakefield bench with just banners and a small number of camera teams occupying the outside terraces

These will be scenes that could be seen throughout the 2020 season, following the latest government decisions that will not allow supporters to return in limited numbers from October 1

Both teams did their part to provide entertainment for the fans watching at home, as the Warriors hit back with a fantastic try which was done by Liam Farrell’s line break and ended under posts by the support from Jackson Hastings

All of Trinity’s hard work in the first quarter was undone in minutes, as French and Joe Burgess teamed up to take the Warriors’ second score of the night

French found his winger on the outside and moved forward to support Burgess to return the ball and the half-back ran to score through the posts to give Zak Hardaker an easy conversion and level procedures

Wakefield spent the opening minutes of the second half camping on the Wigan line but couldn’t make his dominance count

Trinity had to pay for his lack of sharpness on offense as Wigan took a 16 point lead thanks to scores from Powell, Gildart and French

Wakefield was twice denied by the video referee, but scored a try through Johnstone who rushed into the corner to give the score a fairer reflection
