Road works have started on the A55 while work to reinforce the bridges at the St Asaph junction is underway

Built in 1970, the three bridges supporting the A55 via the Talardy interchange are reinforced so that they can continue to carry heavy loads safely for years to come

The Welsh government has said if work is not carried out heavy vehicles will have to be diverted from the A55 to local roads

The Welsh government has said everything will be done to keep disruption to a minimum, but some delays should be expected as the approach to exit 27 on a westbound trip Monday through Thursday

Traffic will be directed to stay on the A55 rather than using alternative local traffic routes which are not suitable for use as detour routes when traffic is high

The scope of work includes repairing concrete, replacing movement joints, resurfacing the pavement and adding steel framing to reinforce the bridge decks

« Critical work at Talardy will increase the resilience of bridges here for the future, helping to reduce the impact of unplanned disruptions or heavy loads needing to be diverted to smaller roads »

The Welsh government has said the work will also address concerns about noise levels on the new surface of the A55 at this junction

A Welsh government spokesperson said: ‘Planned works are currently underway at Talardy to strengthen bridges, increasing the resilience of the A55 for years to come

« This will allow very heavy loads to cross bridges safely, rather than being diverted by local roads

« This work provides an opportunity to address concerns raised by residents regarding noise levels on the new surface

« Officials met with residents in August to listen to their concerns and brief them on planned work »
