World news – Live: More than $100 billion spent supporting Australians through COVID-19 so far, Treasury officials say


Treasury officials say more than $100 billion has already been spent supporting Australians through the coronavirus pandemic. 

Deputy Treasury Secretary Jenny Wilkinson told the Senate inquiry into the COVID-19 response the Government had committed tens of billions of dollars more.

ABC Ballarat reporter Emilia Terzon has been busy filming at cafes and beauty salons where the general atmosphere has been one of relief and celebration.

Chantal Appleton lives alone and has been missing talking to friends. She spent her first morning of freedom at the beauty parlour.

Meanwhile, a groups of mates who hadn’t seen eachother in months had a sit-down coffee – without takeaway cups or the kids.

Gyms won’t be returning for inside lessons for some time in regional Victoria – but small outdoor bootcamps are back on.
