World News – UA – AFL shooter Patrick Dangerfield named All-Australian captain

Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield made a record-breaking eighth appearance in the All-Australian squad and was selected as captain for the first time

The 30-year-old continued his perfect streak by being named one of the AFL’s Top 22 every year since his high-profile transfer to the Adelaide Cats in 2016

Dangerfield joins the elite company with Robert Harvey (St Kilda), Mark Riccuito (Adelaide), Gary Ablett Snr, Gary Ablett Jnr (Geelong) and Lance Franklin (Sydney) as the only other players to win eight all-Australian blazers

Port Adelaide midfielder Travis Boak has been named vice-captain, with the 32-year-old in the squad for the third time – and the first since 2014

The former Power captain is joined in midfield by Brisbane Lions favorite Brownlow Medal Lachie Neale, Melbourne ace Christian Petracca and west coast ruckman Nic Naitnaui, whose second All-Australian appearance comes eight years after its premiere

Explosive Demon Petracca is one of 12 debutants on the squad, with the entire line of backs all starting out – but the great Carlton Jacob Weitering missed the game

Collingwood’s Darcy Moore has been placed in the center half-back, while GWS’s Nick Haynes and Power’s Darcy Byrne-Jones are on either side of the Magpies

Eleven clubs are represented with Geelong, Port, West Coast and the Western Bulldogs leading the selections with three players each

Although Richmond has three players in the 40-man squad on Tuesday, selectors decided to only pick superstar Dustin Martin from the reigning prime ministers after the shock omission of two-time medalist Norm Smith’s last year

If it hadn’t been for the 2019 snob, this would have been Martin’s fifth consecutive selection after being one of the first players chosen from 2016 to 2018

Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury did not add to his six appearances, while his Magpies teammate Taylor Adams surprised his first
