World News – UA – Bullseye on Fowler-Reid as West Coast Fever takes on Vixens for netball title

BRISBANE, Australia (CMC) – Jamaican superstar Jhaniele Fowler-Reid prepares for a tough defensive challenge when his West Coast fever takes on Melbourne Vixens in tomorrow’s final (today, time of Jamaica) of the Australian Super Netball Championship

The 31-year-old goal-shooter has been on fire this season, scoring 910 goals to be the league’s top scorer and impressively propel Fever to the title game

However, the Sunshine Girl is well aware that she will be the target and experts are already launching a battle with Vixens goalkeeper Emily Mannix as one of the keys to the final result at Nissan Arena here.

« I expect Emily to come with her A-game. I’ll go with my A-game too and I’ll go break it, » Fowler-Reid said confidently.

« I know I always run into some of the most amazing defenders I know they’re going to throw stuff at me and I have to hold my end and do my best

« I’m pretty confident that I’ll be going there and doing what I’ve been doing since last season »

Fowler-Reid was good enough to score a record 70 goals in Round 12 when Fever beat New South Wales Swifts 80-71

Against Mannix in the fifth round, however, Fowler-Reid scored 47 goals Fowler-Reid rebounded to score 59 goals in 62 attempts when the two teams met again in round 10 with Mannix missing due to a injury

Fowler-Reid’s goals propelled Fever to third place in the final standings with 34 points with eight wins, five losses and one draw, while Vixens topped the standings with 46 points from 11 wins, two losses and a draw

In the semi-finals almost two weeks ago, Fever beat Swifts 67-62 with Fowler-Reid producing an almost perfect performance with 55 in 56 attempts, while Vixens topped Sunshine Coast Lightning 63-47

The final game marks Fever’s second trip to the Finals in three years, the first appearance ending in a narrow three-goal loss to Lightning in 2018

And the memories of that loss are still fresh for Fowler-Reid, who was the top scorer and MVP this season

« Personally in my head you want to make amends for losing three goals to the Lightning, » she said.

« What I’ve learned is to lead forward and keep leading against a very good team, and keep moving forward and not making ridiculous mistakes
