NRL has provisionally suspended veteran Parramatta Eels Michael Jennings under league anti-doping policy on his team’s do-gold day – finals clash against Rabbitohs
In a statement this morning, the NRL announced that Jennings had returned a positive test for Ligandrol and Ibutamoren, both steroids
« The National Rugby League (NRL) has provisionally suspended Parramatta Eels player Michael Jennings under the NRL anti-doping policy, » the statement read
« The notice of provisional suspension asserts that Mr. Jennings returned an A sample positive for LGD-4033 (Ligandrol) and its metabolite Di-hydroxy-LGD-4033, as well as ibutamoren and its metabolites Desbenzyl Ibutamoren and OH Ibutamoren
« Each of these substances is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the NRL Anti-Doping Policy »
The Rugby League Players Association also released a statement confirming the positive test, but adding that there was no admission of guilt or wrongdoing on Jennings’ part, » and Michael will have the opportunity to analyze his B sample «
« The RLPA will work with Michael and his leadership throughout the process to ensure appropriate representation and support, » the statement said.
The suspension is a blow to the Eels, who were already considered underdogs against the Rabbitohs who have been flying for a month
It’s a huge headache for coach Brad Arthur who is already battling the loss of wingers Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo to injury Jennings’ suspension tears another hole in a ravaged back line
« Parramatta has lost both of his wingers, and they have lost Michael Jennings now, » NRL legend Darren Lockyer told Nine’s Weekend Today
« So, on the eve of their final, it is certainly not the news that an individual, team or club wants
The NRL informed Jennings of her temporary suspension and informed her of the support services available to her
