Former cyclist, who made headlines for lying about his border declaration pass on a trip to Queensland, was shot dead
Former cyclist Shane Bowden was found dead on the north coast of the Gold Coast in an execution-type murder
Police have launched a manhunt after ‘execution’ of ex-cyclist on the Gold Coast overnight
Shane Bowden, 47, was shot several times in his car, in the driveway of his home in Pimpama early Monday morning
Two crime scenes were set up – one in a unit complex on Cox Street in Pimpama, the other where the car was found in Ormeau
Speaking to the media Monday morning, Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said police were chasing « at least two men »
« We believe the victim returned home from the gym, was led down the aisle, and the assailants ran in and shot him several times, » Superintendent Smith said.
It is understood that Bowden’s partner and his two young children were at home at the time of the incident, but they did not witness the horrific shooting
Police say they are looking for at least two men – one dressed in dark clothes, the other in light clothes
Superintendent Smith said there was « no risk to the community » as it appeared to be an internal Mongol incident after Bowden was allegedly « kicked out » from the gang earlier in the year
« It is important that people understand that these gangs are criminals, they are not taking stuffed toys to the hospital, they are criminal gangs that survive on retaliation, violence and threats and if anyone thinks anything else, they’re dumb, ”Superintendent Smith said
Bowden made headlines recently when he was accused of lying about his statement at the border upon his return to Queensland from Melbourne, after testing positive for COVID-19
It was initially reported that he flew while infectious, but Queensland Health later said he recovered from the virus before traveling
Upon arrival in Sunshine State, police pledged to conduct a « full and thorough » investigation
He appeared in court last week and was fined only $ 750 after the magistrate called the form « stupid » and « confusing » in relation to the question: « Did you currently COVID-19 or in the last 14 days a resolved case of COVID-19? «
Bowden tested positive for COVID-19 on August 5 while hospitalized with an infected gunshot wound
He was cleared of the virus on August 21 and completed the declaration pass six days later, in which he said he « had not been cleared of COVID-19 in the 14 days previous »
If he had said he had been cleared of the virus seven days earlier, he could not have entered Queensland
He was once part of Finks’ « terror team » and was responsible for shooting Christopher Hudson in the infamous ballroom blitz
In March 2006, three men were shot and three others stabbed when members of the Finks attacked rival Hells Angels bikes in the Royal Pines Resort ballroom
In 2008, Bowden was sentenced to 6.5 years for his role in the melee, which took place in front of 1,800 spectators and caused more than $ 10,000 in damage
A few weeks after his release from prison in July this year, Bowden was the target of a drive-through shootout in Melbourne in July where he was shot in the leg
On his return to Queensland in August, he told the Courier Mail he wanted to return home to recover from his injury
