Few Australian couples have caught the public eye like Karl and Jasmine Stefanovic

From their enlightened debut to the lavish Mexican wedding that (almost) saw the return of today’s host Karl’s televised concert come to an end, an intense intrigue follows the journalist and shoe designer couple – who hosted their first daughter Harper May this year

Now, in a candid conversation with Stellar Magazine as this weekend’s cover star, Jasmine sets the record straight – revealing that she is tired of being known as just « Karl’s wife »

Speaking of their debut, Jasmine, 36, joked that she was surprised by Karl’s popularity in Australia, having lived as a model abroad for much of her twenties.

« Karl and I met through friends over lunch one day, » she said of when they met in 2016, five months after Karl divorced Cassandra Thorburn

« I had mainly traveled overseas since I was 20 and had no idea how popular Karl was in Australia so I was in shock when he was being chased by paparazzi when I came home for a tour of LA I remember turning to him once and saying, “What’s going on? You are not Brad Pitt ’’

She then recalled the sweet story of their engagement on the day of the Melbourne Cup 2016 – revealing that it didn’t exactly go as planned

« Karl was going to propose me secretly, so he invited all of our friends and family to Melbourne – there were 50 of us – but I looked in the safe and saw the ring box, and it spoiled the surprise We laughed about it, though, and these are the best races I’ve ever attended because everyone we love was there with us « 

But it wasn’t the perfect trip for Karl and Jasmine, with the couple’s love affair marred by headlines criticizing Karl for leaving his 21-year-old wife, even claiming Jasmine had ‘stolen’ Karl to his ex-wife Cassandra

Speaking of the stories, Jasmine admitted it was « difficult » to deal with at the time, but was grateful for her network of support

« I think the hardest part has been dealing with the misconceptions and untruths You just need to focus on the people who know and love you, » she said, adding that she wanted to that the focus be shifted from his personal life to his business

« I want the focus to be on my business and these accomplishments, not on what I wear or who I am married to, » she added

Earlier this year, the Today host himself responded to charges against Jasmine before their wedding in 2018

« She’s been through so much She’s been pilloried and accused of things that didn’t happen, » Karl told Stellar

« It’s not her fault she fell in love with the bugalugs, and the accusations were false that she stole me from Cassandra It’s rubbish and it’s hurtful

« She’s just a sweet, beautiful woman from Queensland who runs a business and has fallen in love with me, » he continued

Karl, 46, who had had a vasectomy when he met Jasmine, has three children from his marriage to Cassandra, son Jackson, 20, daughter Ava, 14, and son River, 12 years

Five months later, Jasmine says motherhood is « the best thing she’s ever done in her life »

« It’s so gratifying Harper is my angel She’s the happiest baby I’m probably biased, but she’s pretty gorgeous She even wakes up singing instead of crying And then I look in her crib and she me radiate that chewy smile, ”she said, adding,“ It’s my morning and I’m like, ‘Damn yeah, that’s amazing’ I’m very lucky ‘

She went on to say that Karl’s grueling early morning schedule has been a blessing in disguise throughout his first months as new parents.

« When he goes to bed early I want to go to bed and Harper wants to go to bed, so we all go to bed early And then when he gets up I go feed Harper, around 4am, and that’s where he goes to work If I have trouble or if I had a bad night when I was up often, he came home at 10 in the morning, which is a big help «
