Perth Scorchers coach Shelley Nitschke says he turned a 'frustrating week' into an invaluable training opportunity as they tried to claim their first Big Bash victory over the Melbourne Renegades today

Perth Scorchers coach Shelley Nitschke said he turned a’ frustrating week ‘into an invaluable training opportunity as they chased their first Big Bash win against Melbourne Renegades today

Perth’s clash against Hobart on Monday was one of five matches in two days to be abandoned without a ball being played due to persistent rain

Nitschke only had five days to prepare his squad for the campaign to open after tapping into their Sydney hub last Monday, so praised the training time

« We absolutely (made the most of it), it’s been a really good week to get a good workout, » Nitschke said

« This has been very important for this group and I think it will go a long way in helping this group come together on the ground as well »

The Scorchers’ new opening duo Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney laid a solid foundation in their opener against Brisbane, combining for a 55-innings opening partnership, however, a 5-10 collapse undone the duo’s hard work and resulted in the team posting a sub-par total of 132

« We have certainly identified some areas of the game that we could have gone a little further »
