Pete Evans has been asked to bow his head in shame over comments he apparently made in reference to a prominent Australian doctor who died earlier a year after a battle with pancreatic cancer
Evans’ comments came during a live Zoom chat with Allona Lahn, the Medical Opinions Party candidate for the Queensland state election, on Facebook
During the live broadcast, Evans and Lahn discussed the COVID-19 pandemic, the medical industry and the government
« I recently had the President of the Royal Australian College of GPs this year a fellow called Harry Nespolon he went on Ben Fordham’s 2gb radio talk show and questioned my sanity « said Evans
« The fact that someone is publicly questioning someone’s mental state doesn’t have the decency to if they were concerned about my mental state, maybe they should have called me or me. ‘invite to have a conversation
Evans then spoke about helping people with cancer by encouraging them to see things through a « holistic lens »
« Thinking we know everything, and I’m not here to say I know how to beat cancer, I’m not saying I know how to put anything into remission, but a lot of people have been able to go through it this process looking at things through this [holistic] lens
« But when you have people in positions of power, or experts in the medical field of their choice, who still don’t know how to deal with sickness and disease, who still succumb to these diseases and diseases – yet they ‘experts in these chosen sectors – can say a lot «
Responding to his comments, RACGP Acting President Associate Professor Ayman Shenouda said Evans should back down and apologize to Nespolon’s family
« Harry was a great man who many people miss sorely, including me, » Shenouda said
« Even when diagnosed with terminal cancer, Harry continued to fight and provide exceptional leadership until he could no longer hold on
« I promised that I would find a way to honor his work and his advocacy, which includes defending his legacy against Pete Evans
In June, following a series of controversial social media posts from Evans, Nespolon said it was important for people to reach
« No matter what he’s done in the past, it’s really important that we take care of him and get in touch with him if there’s a problem, » Nespolon said at the time
