A 26-year-old man and woman, believed to be a student pilot and his instructor, were killed instantly when their light plane crashed in west-central Wednesday
The duo died after taking off from Orange Regional Airport just before 7:30 a.m., after traveling from Bankstown Airport
They had practiced a touch and go landing and landed successfully before encountering problems after leaving Orange Regional Airport
Chief Inspector Luke Rankin told reporters on Thursday that the two occupiers were « killed instantly »
But police are still trying to piece together what caused the tragic incident and say the location of the crash posed a challenge for detectives
« There was no fire after the accident, but it will take a lot of work to piece together what happened, » he said

The couple are of Indian descent and police are waiting for their family and friends overseas to be informed before their identities are revealed
He said the duo were practicing landings in that particular area when the deadly event unfolded
Earlier, Superintendent Peter O’Brien, Commander of the Chifley Police District, told the Blayney Chronicle that investigators remained at the scene
He explained that the student pilot had to land and take off from a remote airport, and that an airstrip on Carcoar property had been chosen for this task.
He told the publication that the owner heard the accident and « went to see », before calling the police
The Australian Transportation Safety Board has been notified and a report will be prepared for the coroner
