Luai was added to the NSW setup after Sunday’s grand final, although he has said in recent weeks that he wants to continue representing Samoa

Luai said in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald that he wanted to lead a change in Tonga for Samoa

« I would still be eligible for the Blues, but my heart is with Samoa, » he told the Sydney Morning Herald

« I know how good Samoa can be, there is a lot of good young talent coming in, and the brothers I grew up playing with want to play for Samoa too – Brian To’o, Stephen Crichton , Spencer Leniu, Moses Leota, Tyrone May, we are all eligible

« We have seen what happened with Tonga, and I hope we can get there one day because I know how much of a threat Samoa can be to other nations If we all accept, we will get a lot of rewards «  »

But after saying that, and previously declaring his support for the Maroons, Luai was added to Fittler’s squad.

Blues picker Greg Alexander hinted that Tevita Pangai Jr faded from an inclusion in the Blues last year when he also claimed he had a soft spot for the Maroons

« Tevita was not in the 2019 squad, I think he was suspended and there was a bit of inconsistent form, » Alexander said earlier this year

« But in that interview leading up to an Origin game that year, the reporter [asked]: » You’re a New South Welshman, you’re a boy from Newcastle, do you hope New South Wales will win? «

« He said no » I’m going for Queensland, I’m a Queensland fan, if Kevvie needs someone to come up against me I’m available «

« That wasn’t the smartest thing to say for Tevita If he ever wanted to play Origin, you don’t think you would say something like that »
