The BBC has put Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin on the list of the 100 « Most Inspirational and Influential » Women of 2020.
The list recognizes women « who lead change and make a difference » in these turbulent times, with Finland’s Prime Minister being the first name mentioned in the article.
In a profile of Marin, the British public broadcaster writes that the Finnish Prime Minister is currently leading a coalition government made up of four other parties, all led by women, and there is further praise for how Finland does too the coronavirus crisis.
« Finland has been hailed for dealing with Covid-19 with one of the lowest infection rates in Europe since November 2020, » the article says.
The list is divided into four categories: knowledge, leadership, creativity, and identity. Marin is listed in the leadership category by Belarusian opposition leader Svyatlana Tsihanouskaya, Thai democracy activist Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul, and Somali peace activist Ilwad Elman on Others.
One of the 100 spots on the list was left blank under the pseudonym « Unsung Hero » as a tribute to all women who have made sacrifices to help others.
« While the BBC 100 Women cannot name every woman around the world who has contributed, this section is designed to allow you to think about the people who influenced you over the course of 2020, » it says in the article states.
The Finnish Center for Housing Financing and Development made the extraordinary decision for only the second time in history.
