Global carbon capture and storage capacity has increased by a third over the past year, but it has been far too slow to hit global climate goals, the Global CCS Institute said Tuesday. There were 26 commercial CCS plants in operation around the world, capable of producing around 40 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, mainly due to the use of CO2 for improved oil recovery. This resulted in a report on the use of the technology. A number of countries, including the UK, have set targets to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050, a mission that, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), is impossible without CCS technology. .

STARK Germany relies on DATAGROUP

Pliezhausen, 1. December 2020. STARK Deutschland GmbH, a leading building contractor, relies on the IT service provider DATAGROUP. DATAGROUP had outsourced the IT infrastructure from the former parent company Saint Gobain and will in future provide the following IT services: service desk, data center, management of mobile devices, end-user services and network services. The order has a volume of 15 million. EUR.
The carve-out project started in October 2019. In the DATAGROUP data centers in Germany, not only did the entire underlying infrastructure of the parent company in France have to be reorganized, but also all around 5. 000 employees at STARK Germany had to be equipped with new devices. IT carve-out and device replacement were carried out successfully and without restrictions for users despite the challenges of the coronavirus such as the closure of borders and a short-term hardware shortage.
Due to the guidelines of the former parent company, it was not possible to use the standard migration process through Veeam security software. DATAGROUP therefore opted for an agile approach in close cooperation with the French IT department. « We manually copied the servers onto hard drives and then uploaded the data to our data centers, » says Dino Huber, Manager Business Development DATAGROUP. « It was possible to complete this migration within ten weeks and largely before the corona-induced border closure. Without downtime for the customer. «  »
Similarly, the impact on employees when backing up user data was limited to a maximum of 30 minutes. DATAGROUP has developed its own tool for this purpose. Users can save their data via a simple, intuitive interface and transfer it to the new PC with a stick. This means that the customer retains full data sovereignty.
« DATAGROUP was a flexible and reliable partner in this project. Together we managed to implement a successful project despite the very challenging framework conditions in the required period and with good overall quality (keyword: Corona). There were certainly restrictions for our employees from time to time. Taken together, however, things went surprisingly well with no « real disasters ». . At the end of the project, DATAGROUP reduced the large ticket volume to an acceptable level in a relatively short period of time and with great commitment, « says Dirk Scheffler, IT / CIO Director at STARK Germany.
Since the end of the transition phase at the end of August, DATAGROUP has been offering the following IT outsourcing services for STARK Germany: service desk, data center, management of mobile devices, end-user services and network services.
