Engineers from Network Rail, using six engineering trains, removed old tracks and ballast that ran between Penzance and Truro, Cornwall, and on St. Ives Bay Line, and replaced with new ballast, railroad tracks and sleepers.

During this time, more than a kilometer of new track, sleepers and ballast were installed, around 1. 4 km of rails and sleepers were repaired and 15 signal and communication cabinets were replaced.

The work was started on Friday, November 11th. December, completed at 5 a.m., and train traffic resumed on schedule.

Lee Hildreth, Network Rail Project Manager, said, “We are delighted to have completed these important railroad upgrades and we thank the passengers for their patience while we have completed the work.

“The improvements will help provide passengers with more reliable journeys and are another example of our investment in the Cornwall railroad following the recent signal upgrades in the South West. ”
