HOUSTON – KPRC 2 Sports has learned that Astros Houston is about to purchase Sugar Land Skeeters and make it a new subsidiary of Triple-A. Talks have continued since 2019 and have continued to evolve.
Sources tell sports director Randy McEvoy that it’s not official yet, but it could be Tuesday. An announcement is expected from Major League Baseball this week. The Atlantic’s Somerset Patriots became a subsidiary of the Yankees Double-A as well. Forty minor league organizations are moving to new cities starting in 2021.
Astros’s new Triple-A Team is expected to start playing in Sugar Land this spring. Details are still being worked out and the COVID-19 issues will be a factor.
