BOSTON (CBS) — Patriots running back James White will not play on Sunday night in Seattle, after his father died in an automobile accident.
White’s father, Tyrone, died in accident that took place in Florida on Sunday afternoon, while his mother — who was also in the car — is in critical condition.
Later Sunday, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced that at 1:01 p.m. on Sunday, a motor vehicle crash took place at the 11800 block of Griffin Road in Cooper City, Florida. In the accident, one car was flipped over and another was on fire.
“BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel provided medical assistance to the victims and extinguished the fire in the vehicle,” the release stated. “BSO Air Rescue responded and assisted in transporting two of the three victims. The third victim of the crash, identified as Miami-Dade Police Captain Tyrone White, was pronounced deceased on scene. Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating the crash and additional information will be released when available.”
White, 28, is in his seventh season with the Patriots. A three-time Super Bowl champion and member of the Patriots’ 2010 All-Decade Team, White’s name was surprisingly on the team’s inactive list when it came out on Sunday evening. Not long after, a report of the fatal accident surfaced.
The broadcast of the game noted that White decided to remain in Seattle and fly back to the East Coast with the team.
