Pat Chambers abruptly announced his resignation as Penn State basketball head coach on Wednesday after an internal investigation into his conduct Although some information has come out, it’s fair to assume that we don’t know the full story of why the 49-year-old coach is now unemployed

The investigation was reportedly launched after former Penn State Guard Rasir Bolton revealed Chambers told him he wanted to ‘loosen the noose around your neck’ during the 2018 season -19 Bolton was horrified by these words and decided to move to Iowa State in 2019 He relayed the story to The Undefeated in July of this year After the story broke up, Chambers admitted that ‘he had said the words and apologized publicly, but at the time of the incident Bolton said the coach never apologized to him

Chambers’ comments came just days after he was suspended for hustling first year goalie Myles Dread during an in-game click:

Josh Reaves was the team’s captain that season and was briefed on « noose » comments during the Reaves era, who is currently on the Dallas Mavericks, said his initial reaction was disgust:

« I don’t know if I have the right to curse It was just f — ed up, to say the least Saying that, in any kind of context, is false Whichever way you try to make it sound like you are speaking, what kind of tone you are trying to take Anyway, this is wrong «

Chambers tried to work things out with Reaves, but was unsuccessful The then-senior guard expected to hear Penn State administrators talk about the incident after Bolton and his family brought it up at school But Reaves never heard a thing:

« Nothing happened It’s a big deal Just to hear someone say something like that is a big deal »

But the « noose » incident is unlikely the only reason Chambers was released The school announced new allegations of improper conduct after The Undefeated article published on Bolton in July There must be more to come because of this series of tweets from David Jones from Penn Live:

1 Patrick Chambers has been the subject of an internal Penn State investigation in recent months, led by Robert Boland, PSU’s athletics integrity manager, PennLive has learned Interviews with many former players and coaches focused on their treatment of Chambers

2 Sources said it was launched after recent public comments from the former PSU and current Iowa State Guard Rasir Bolton and those of the graduate / current guard Dallas Maverick Josh Reaves Respondents were asked about possible recruitment irregularities

Several former players and coaches have been asked about how they have been treated by Chambers and there may have been some recruiting issues as well. Anything below the surface will likely come out soon and it sure looks like more happening here

Chambers arrived at Penn State in 2011, and in nine seasons posted a 148-150 (497) record He never took the team to the NCAA tournament but the Nittany Lions won the NIT in 2018
