Paige Bueckers had 5. 3 seconds left to the length of the square. It turned out that it didn’t even take that long.
The newbie took the inbound pass and ran up the floor. Time passed, she never hesitated and bet on a runner with 0. 2 remain on the watch.
It was that kind of third quarter for Bueckers and UConn in third place as they returned to the Big East and found their superiority in a 92-65 loss at Seton Hall Tuesday night at Walsh High School. The Huskies – back in the Great East for the first time in 13 years – have now won 32 games in a row and 47 of the last 48 games against the Pirates.
Bueckers finished the game with 25 points while Christyn Williams scored 21 points. Aaliyah Edwards added 17 points and Olivia Nelson-Ododa scored 16 as the Huskies improved to 2-0.
UConn hit another gear in the third quarter, nearly doubling Seton Hall (33-17) to turn the game into a router. Bueckers and Nelson-Ododa led this increase with 26 points.
The Huskies started quickly and jumped 21: 8 with a 13: 2 run. Much of it was supported by Williams, who scored 11 points in the first quarter, surpassing their performance in the season opener against UMass Lowell. UConn led 25-15 after a quarter.
Seton Hall slowly dropped out and Amari Wright cut the deficit from 14 to single digits (38-30) at halftime.
