A picture was posted on social media in November 2020 allegedly of Emily Murphy, the U’s director. S.. . General Services Administration (GSA) at a rally for U. . S.. . President Donald Trump in a fuck your feelings shirt. The GSA oversees the presidential election:

Murphy was at the center of a political controversy following the U. . S.. . Presidential elections in November 2020. While President-elect Joe Biden was clearly shown to be the 2020 election winner, Trump has so far refused to admit and has continued to contest the election in court. While politicians and social media users have urged Murphy to appreciate the election results and issue an « investigative letter » so Biden can work with the White House on an orderly transition, she has so far refused to do so.

Regardless of how you judge Murphy’s performance as a GSA administrator, the image shown above has nothing to do with her.

For starters, the picture has been spreading on social media since it was captured at a rally for Trump at the Heritage Bank Center of Cincinnati (formerly U) in October 2016. S.. . Bank arena). While the man on the left was identified as « Randy Rigdon » by NBC news reporter Frank Thorpe at the time, we were unable to establish the identity of the woman on the right. However, it’s suspect that Murphy’s name wasn’t linked to it until November 2020 when she was in the political spotlight.

This « identification » was made without evidence. Murphy was not identified in this photo by anyone who knows her or by anyone who attended this rally. Rather, that identification was made years later by someone who was not involved in the image and who bases the claim on a passing similarity. As we’ve seen time and time again, this isn’t a great way to identify a person in a photo.

As a side note, this picture was taken in Cincinnati, Ohio. Murphy doesn’t live here as her GSA bio states that she lives in Washington, D. C.. . , nor is it where she originally came from, St. . Louis, Missouri.
