Since Book kept escaping pressure, North Carolina QB Sam Howell couldn’t. The Irish sacked Howell six times and kept North Carolina on the lowest offensive performances of the season.

On Saturday, the Tar Heels had scored no less than 26 points or less than 401 yards in their first eight games of the season. North Carolina only had a total of 298 meters against Notre Dame. In those first eight games, the UNC’s average was over 563 meters per game.

The game initially looked like it was going to be a shootout. Both teams traded touchdowns by 28 points in a first quarter that ended between 14 and 14.

But Notre Dame cordoned off Howell and the UNC attack afterwards. The two touchdown drives in North Carolina were 125 meters long. The tar heels had 173 yards over their last nine trips.
