« We have actually been preparing since the weekend, » says Catherine Hartnett, spokeswoman for Central Maine Power.
Hartnett says 100 CMP crews will be accompanied by 150 contractor crews and 100 tree crews to respond to the potential impact of high winds and heavy rain expected on Monday evening.
« Brunswick, Harpswell, and just north of them tend to take the brunt of such storms, » says Hartnett. “The ground there is pretty flat, and if the trees aren’t frozen in the ground, we get uprooted trees that are outside of our cutting zone and fall into the line. ”
And she says that restoring electricity to these areas can take a while due to the narrow, winding coastal roads that are harder to access.
Forecasters say some areas could see 2-3 inches of rain, with strong winds gusting 50-60 mph.
