Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington has injected himself into the news after players from the NBA and MLB initiated strikes in protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin.

It all started when members of the Milwaukee Bucks decided not to play their playoff game on Wednesday night, starting a domino effect that ultimately led to every NBA game being postponed. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James offered a fiery message on social media after Blake was shot seven times in the back and left paralyzed from the waist down.

The outcry for justice led to the NBA and Major League Baseball postponing games with the basketball league facing a potential strike that could cancel the entire season.

Responding to the news, Covington took to Twitter to offer his thoughts on the subject and took aim at the NBA and MLB players who decided to sit out in protest.

“Oh wow, you postponed your games?!” Covington wrote. “Wanna prove you’re really about change? Quit your multi-million dollar jobs and soft privileged lives playing a kids game, take a massive pay cut and perform the toughest job in America. Become cops!!!!”

An outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, Covington has offered his support to police in the past, including earlier this year during social unrest of the George Floyd was murdered in Minnesota.

Covington’s brash comments caught the attention of his most recent opponent, who offered his own response on Twitter.

“I really wish someone would just break your jaw already,” UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman wrote, referencing the injury Covington was initially diagnosed with after a fifth-round TKO loss.

Usman also addressed an earlier post he made on Instagram showing two different videos: footage from Blake’s shooting, which has sparked civil unrest in his native Kenosha, and a separate incident involving a Caucasian individual who was caught in a similar situation with police but walked away unscathed.

“That’s food for thought of what the difference is,” Usman said. “They’re both human beings. What is the difference? One was black and the other one was white. That’s why I posted the video.

“That’s what we still live in. That’s what I’m expected to live in each and everyday. That is extremely painful.”

On the our current state and a bit of Wednesday Motivation!!
